This week was historic for the women’s movement and the fight for women’s human rights: the European Parliament took a firm position on the texts in the Directive on combating violence against women and domestic violence and adopted its mandate for negotiations with the Council of the EU
The European Parliament resolution accepts many of the proposals of the European Women’s Lobby, calling for a wider scope so that more victims can be protected and more perpetrators punished, it also includes a definition of rape (lack of consent should be a central and integral element of the definition), stricter rules on cyber-violence and better support for victims.
